Reports of shots fired in the 50's block of Melrose Ave. had several police units arrive to the scene where one person was struck and seriously injured by gunfire at around 8 p.m.
The victim was quickly rushed to University Hospital in Newark. There were initial claims of a child being struck by gunfire at this location but was proven false.
Police are looking for two vehicles where the occupants reportedly unloaded rounds of gunfire at each. One of the rounds struck an innocent victim.
Police have a crime scene at that location and are investigating.
