NJ State Police officials are investigating the cause of a Turnpike crash that killed two men in Westampton Sunday morning.
According to NJ State Police Spokesman Charles Marchan, troopers responded to a crash in the northbound lanes of the New. Jersey Turnpike near north milepost 42 around 5:16 a.m.
Trooper Marchan said that based on a preliminary investigation Mr. Higinio Martinez Sanchez, 30, of Bridgeton, was operating a Mazda passenger car north on the highway in the right lane near milepost 42.
According to Troopsr Marchan, Mr. Lazaro Gonzalez, 34, of Miami, Florida, was operating a Freightliner with an attached trailer north behind the Mazda.
The Freightliner drove into the center lane of travel in an attempt to pass the Mazda when the Mazda Abruptly changed lanes into the center lane and was subsequently impacted by the Freightliner.
Trooper Marchan said, the driver of the Freightliner sustained minor injuries.
The driver of the Mazda, Mr. Higinio Martinez Sanchez sustained severe injuries, but his passengers, Mr. Pedro Morales Roias, 28, and Mr. Rolando Perez Aragon, 21, both of Bridgeton, sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collisionTrooper Marchan said.
The crash remains under investigation.
