An 18-year-old Linden man was arrested by Cranford Police and charged with multiple weapons offenses after officers located a loaded 9mm handgun during motor vehicle stop.
At approximately 11:55 p.m. Sunday, Ptl. Timothy Handy stopped a 2003 gray Infiniti on South Avenue near Lincoln Avenue East for motor vehicle violations.
While Handy was speaking with the vehicle occupants, a rear seat passenger, later identified as Kevin Clark, of Linden, was asked to exit the vehicle. While officers were attempting to identify Clark, he pulled away and fled the scene on foot.
After a foot-chase through several yards on Hale Street and Heinrich Street, Clark was apprehended behind a Meeker Avenue home.
During the chase, officer observed Clark discard several items, one of which was a silver 9mmhandgun loaded with hollow point bullets.
Clark was arrested and transported to Cranford Police Headquarters.
He was charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, possession of hollow point ammunition, possession of a defaced firearm, hindering apprehension and resisting arrest.
Bail was set at $200,000 and Clark was committed to the Union County Jail pending an appearance in Superior Court on April 8.
The driver of the vehicle, a 22-year-old female, was cited for multiple motor vehicle infractions and released at the scene.
A 19-year-old male passenger was cited for failure to wear a seatbelt and a 17-year-old male passenger was taken into protective custody and released to a parent.
