Christmas help for those in need was made available for families who are struggling financially by generous elves from one of NJ's leaders in sustainable materials management on December 8th.
Providing a picture-perfect Christmas to some residents around the region is extremely difficult due to a tough season where inflation placed strains on family budgets in an attempt to provide the necessities like gas, food, and other much-needed supplies.
Headquartered in Morristown, Covanta Holding Corporation is a private energy-from-waste and industrial waste management that operate power plants that burn trash as fuel.
Covanta Essex waste to energy facility sponsored the 2nd annual Christmas event powered by the South 17th & 18th St. Neighborhood Association and Newark community leader Ms. Christina Cherry.
Covanta officials told RLS Media they donated $100 gift cards to 100 families (totaling $10,000) and sponsored Newark's South Ward annual Christmas event and tree lighting ceremony.
The waste management leader also gave a generous donation of $30,000 to Newark Science and Sustainability Inc.
Under the leadership of Founder and Managing Director Mr. Tobias A. Fox, the nonprofit is an organization that creates community gardens where vacant, unused lots once sat, offering vegetables for Newark residents to cook and eat.
Newark Science and Sustainability Inc.'s efforts help create a self-sustaining Newark with grassroots programs that provide food access, educational opportunities and more to thousands of residents.
