Newark firefighters swiftly extinguished a fire that ignited inside a basement of a building Friday.
The fast-moving fire that produced heavy smoke erupted inside the building located at 6 Marion Avenue around 3:20 a.m.
Firefighters arrived and found thick smoke coming from the multi-family building.
Crews rapidly located the seat of the fire but not before activating a second alarm for manpower after flames began to make its way up the walls and onto the first floor of the building.
Fire officials placed the fire under control in under an hour, with the cause under investigation.
