Authorities in Essex County are on the scene of a shooting that seriously injured a male on a college campus in Newark Wednesday evening.
Campus Police officers from Rutgers and NJIT responded to reports of shots fired in the vicinity of the Subway restaurant near 161 University Avenue around 9:35 p.m.
Upon arrival, they found the victim inside a car, “in and out of consciousness,” suffering gunshot wounds at that location.
Newark Police joined the investigation and taped off the area while EMS rushed the victim to University Hospital for treatment.
As of 10:30 p.m., the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has only confirmed non-fatal injuries.
The motive for the shooting has not been determined, and no arrests have been reported.
