Police in Newark requested a crime scene unit for a shots-fired incident in the city's South Ward Saturday morning.
At approximately 5:06 a.m., a ShotSpotter device activated and alerted police of a shooting in the vicinity of Lyons Avenue and Aldine.
Units arrived at the scene and found multiple shell casings in the neighborhood, but while searching the community, no victims were found.
A second ShotSpotter device went off about a block away, indicating that the shooter continued firing at their potential target.
Authorities alerted hospitals in the region to look out for potential walking gunshot victims.
The suspect fled the scene and has not been apprehended.
