A fight among two feuding Newark DPW workers ended in gunfire Monday morning, with one of the employees shot and injured in Newark’s Ironbound section.
According to a preliminary investigation, at approximately 11 a.m., police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out near the Ironbound Recreation Center in the 90's block of St. Charles Street.
Police arrived and found a seriously injured man suffering bullet wounds after an unidentified person fired rounds at the victim before fleeing the scene.
The victim was rushed to University Hospital in stable condition and expected to recover.
Sources told RLS Media that the victim, a 17-year employee with the DPW, was shot after an altercation with a coworker.
Authorities were looking for the suspect, who sources said is the son of the Water Department Manager, and his mother is a retired Newark Police Department sergeant who is now employed in the fire department.
The suspect is reportedly a part of a program that allows workers at the Newark Department of Public Works.
No arrests have been reported.
