Police in Newark reported no injuries in a shots-fired incident in Newark's Central Ward Friday afternoon.
Officers scrambled to reports of shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of Jeliff and Muhammad Ali Avenue around 3:15 p.m.
Officers arrived and were told that suspects fired multiple rounds at unknown targets, then entered a silver vehicle -possibly a BMW- and sped away from the scene.
Units arrived at the scene and recovered shell casings near the Grace West Manor, but no injuries were reported.
Police believed the suspected vehicle had a NJ license plate number "X88-MVA".
Students leaving nearby schools ducked for cover in the area and officials ordered some to shelter in place until the scene was cleared.
In a separate incident, police and school officials locked down the McKinley Elementary School after security officers called in reports of shots fired in the single-digit block of Colonnade Place shortly before 3 p.m.
According to officials, the building was closed off while police searched the area for evidence that a shooting occurred, but after canvassing the scene, police say no ballistics were found.
No arrests have been reported in the Central Ward shooting.
