UPDATE: Man Charged with Murder in Newark's South Ward

 Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé announced that Tyquil Martin, 23, of Newark, has been arrested for the recent murder of Mr. Thomas Pickett.

Officials said Martin is charged with murder, unlawful possession of a handgun, and possession of a handgun for unlawful purpose.

According to Prosecutor Stephens, on Saturday, August 13, at 9:44 p.m., Newark Police discovered Pickett, 23, of Newark, on the 200 block of Renner Avenue in Newark, suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was transported to University Hospital and pronounced dead at 10:16 p.m.

Official said a second victim was injured and taken to University Hospital for treatment.
