Police in Newark are crediting a gunfire detection device for alerting them of a shooting that injured a person in the city's North Ward Saturday morning.
Several blasts of gunfire set off a ShotSpotter device near the intersection of Verona Avenue and Broadway around 2 a.m.
When police arrived at the scene, they located a male struck by gunfire.
EMS rushed the injured to University Hospital to treat a bullet wound in his leg.
Police have not released an arrest or a motive for the shooting at this time.
