One person has died after a violent crash in a section of Newark's South Ward Friday.
The early morning collision happened around 2:45 a.m. near the intersection of Avon Avenue and Bergen Street.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found the crashed vehicle with the driver trapped inside.
Officials say rescue personnel extricated the man from the car, where he was then rushed to University Hospital for treatment and pronounced dead a short time later.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office was on the scene for the investigation and to determine the cause of the crash.
No other serious injuries were reported.
