Police in Newark are investigating a shooting incident in the city's South Ward Sunday night.
It happened around 10 p.m. near the intersection of Hunterdon Street and Mapes Avenue.
According to the investigation, police responded to several 911 calls reporting shots fired in the neighborhood, when they arrived officers found the victim suffering gunshot wounds.
She was rushed to University Hospital for treatment while police canvassed the area for additional gunshot victims.
No other injuries were reported and the suspect fled the scene and remains at large.
