Police in Newark are investigating the motive behind a shooting that left a male victim seriously injured in Newark Saturday morning.
It happened around 4 a.m. in the vicinity of 191 North 7th Street.
A ShotSpotter activated and alerted police of gunfire near the address and when cops arrived, they found over a half-dozen shell casings and a blood trail but no victims.
While detectives operated at the scene collecting evidence, officials at University Hospital notified authorities that a male gunshot victim entered the emergency room suffering a bullet wound to his forehead.
The injured was reportedly dropped off by a private vehicle.
A car at the scene of the shooting sustained damage after being struck by gunfire.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
Police reported no arrests.
