On the morning of Wednesday, March 25, a patient who was initially believed to be traveling from Liberia was transported to University Hospital in Newark.
After evaluation, it was determined that the patient did not travel recently to any of the countries on the Ebola Centers for Disease Control watch list.
Out of an abundance of caution, the patient was evaluated in consultation with the Newark Department of Health and Community Wellness and New Jersey Department of Health officials.
Based on the patient's clinical symptoms, it was determined the patient is not at risk for Ebola Virus Disease. The patient will be discharged upon medical clearance.
"Newark Police Department, Rutgers University police officers, and others who came in contact with the patient, are not at risk based on the patient's clinical presentation and will be released to duty."
