Detectives at the Essex County Prosecutor's Office are investigating the murder of a male victim in Newark's South Ward Sunday night.
A preliminary investigation indicated that officers were dispatched to the vicinity of 237 Chadwick Avenue to investigate reports of multiple shots fired just before 11:45 p.m.
Police arrived at the scene and found a severely injured, unconscious and unresponsive male suffering a bullet wound in his head at that location.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect fled the scene and remained at large. No other injuries were reported.
