Serious Injuries for Victim of Overnight Newark Carjacking

An apparent carjacking left one person shot and seriously injured in Newark overnight. 

Gunfire erupted at around 4:25 a.m. in the area of Orange Street and 4th Street sending police to the scene where they found a person shot to the chest at that location. 

EMS rushed the victim to University Hospital suffering serious injuries. Police are looking for a the victim's white Porsche SUV taken by the suspects after the shooting. 

In an unrelated incident, police in Newark's Ironbound section apprehended a strong armed carjacking suspect Saturday afternoon at around 3 p.m. after the man reportedly forced a woman from her vehicle on Merchant Street. The suspect, (attempting to flee) drove the wrong way down Clover Street where he lost control of the vehicle and crash into a CRV at that location. 

Several male residents were able to subdue the suspect a short distant away on Ferguson Street until police arrived to make the arrest. 

There were no injuries reported in the Ironbound incident.
