Authorities in Essex County are looking for suspects that opened fire on a man in Newark's West Ward, causing fatal injuries Tuesday morning.
In a preliminary investigation, shooters arrived the vicinity of 391 South 20th Street and began firing multiple rounds in the direction of a male who was struck several times.
Police say headquarters were notified of the gunfire after a ShotSpotter device detected 37 gunshots in the vicinity of Sout Orange Avenue and South 19th Street around 1:40 a.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found scores of shell casings and an unresponsive male in the rear yard of one of the homes.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has confirmed with RLS Media fatal results for the unidentified male victim.
Police say as officers canvassed the neighborhood, they found the window of a home struck by bullets and three vehicles damaged by gunfire.
No other injuries have been reported.
