A female victim suffered serious injuries in a shooting in Newark's West Ward overnight.
Police responded to reports of shots fired in the vicinity of 297 South 9th Street at 12:30 a.m.
When officers arrived, they found a female bleeding from her back after suffering bullet wounds at that location.
Police say the victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment while officers searched the area for evidence and other possible victims.
Officers canvassing the area reportedly located a gun near 307 South 9th Street, but no other injuries were immediately reported.
The motive for the shooting has not been determined the investigation remains active.
