Man Killed in Paramus Crash

Paramus

Police in Paramus are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Saturday morning.

According to police, on July 9, at approximately 5:05 a.m., the Paramus Police Department responded to a serious motor vehicle crash on Forest Avenue in the area of Filippe Court.

Police said that upon arrival, officers determined that a construction backhoe tractor owned by Suez Water, New Jersey, had collided with a 2020 Ford Ranger pickup truck.

According to police officials, the backhoe was driving south in the left lane of Forest Avenue. The driver, a 40-year-old male from Elmwood Park, reported that he had swerved to avoid a deer running across the road.

At that point, the Ford Ranger, driven by a 78-year-old male from Englewood, which was driving north in the left lane of Forest Avenue, struck the front corner of the backhoe and spun around.

Arriving police officers found the driver of the Ranger unresponsive and immediately removed him from the vehicle and began CPR and other life-saving measures.

According to police, the victim was transported by Paramus EMS to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the backhoe was not injured.

At this time the crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information may call the Paramus Police Department at 201-262-3400
