Police recovered shell casings at the scene of a shooting in Newark's West Ward Monday morning.
Gunfire erupted in the vicinity of 250 Ellery Avenue around 3:35 a.m., prompting a police investigation.
Upon arrival, police found multiple shell casings, but after canvassing the neighborhood, no victims were located.
Police say a ShotSpotter device activated and alerted headquarters of the shooting.
The suspect fled the scene and remained at large.
