The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are looking for the driver of a car involved in a collision that killed a person on a highway in Newark Saturday.
Officials said the incident occurred at approximately 2:10 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Route 1&9, adjacent to the Anheuser-Bush Facility.
According to Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, two vehicles, both traveling southbound, collided.
The driver of one of the cars, a 35-year-old female, suffered severe bodily injuries and was subsequently pronounced dead.
The decedent's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Officials said the second vehicle's driver fled the scene after the crash.
The incident is being investigated by detectives from the Essex County Prosecutor's Crime Scene Investigations Bureau.
The investigation is active and ongoing at this time.
