One person was taken into custody and charged with a shooting in Newark's South Ward on Friday morning.
The early-morning shooting happened around 3:15 a.m. in the 80's block of Mapes Avenue.
Officers rushed to the scene after a ShotSpotter device alerted them of gunfire in the community.
Upon arrival, police found a male victim suffering a gunshot wound in his right torso. The victim was transported to the hospital and is reportedly in stable condition.
Police canvassing several blocks in the neighborhood found a vehicle struck by bullets in the 100 block of Chadwick and multiple shell casings in the vicinity of Clinton Avenue and Bergen Street.
Authorities believe at least two additional suspects involved in the shooting remain at large. Police did recover a weapon at the scene.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
