Essex County Prosecutor Office officials are investigating a Newark South Ward shooting that left a person dead overnight.
A preliminary investigation indicated that at approximately 11:30 p.m., officials at Beth Israel Hospital alerted police when an unidentified person entered the emergency room suffering bullet wounds.
Police later learned that the individual was shot on Goodwin Avenue before going to the hospital.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed a homicide investigation.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation, and no other injuries were reported.
Police have not released information on an arrest at this time.
