The search is on for a set of armed carjackers that targeted victims in Newark and Irvington overnight.
Police in Irvington responded to a carjacking that occurred in the area of Springfield Ave. and 21st Street shortly before 10:30 where the suspects (who were armed with weapons) took a two door grey 2006 Mercedes Benz 350 with a NJ license plate number "D12-EMP".
The suspects were described as three black males wearing ski-mask who were last seen heading northbound on 21st Street.
A short time later in the 600 block of Ridge Street in Newark's North Ward, police raced to the scene of a reported carjacking where armed men reportedly jumped out of a gold van and took a two door 1992 white Lexus with NJ license plate numbers "L20-EEF".
Police caught up with that vehicle at around 11 p.m. in the area of Elizabeth Ave. and Clinton Ave. where they followed the vehicle though several South Ward neighborhoods before losing site of the vehicle near the Hillside border.
It is not immediately known if the carjackings are connected.
There were no injuries reported.
