A 36-year-old Atlantic City man was arrested and charged on Monday evening in the fatal shooting of a 30-year-old Pleasantville woman, Jazmen Martin-Richardson, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary S. Shill announced.
According to Acting Prosecutor Shill, on Monday, May 23, Lamar Pitts of Atlantic City was arrested at the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, where he was processed and charged with Aggravated Manslaughter, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons and Receiving Stolen Property.
Acting Prosecutor Shill said that Pitts was also charged with additional weapons offenses for an incident in Pleasantville that occurred a week prior to the homicide.
"I want to credit the Pleasantville Police Department and the ACPO Major Crimes Unit for the swift identification and apprehension of the suspect in this matter," Acting Prosecutor Shill said.
"While we cannot always prevent acts of senseless violence, we take all necessary actions to identify, arrest and prosecute individuals who commit heinous crimes to the fullest extent of the law."
According to Acting Prosecutor Shill, on early Monday morning, just after midnight, Pitts shot Martin-Richardson at her residence. She succumbed to her injuries at her home after receiving life-saving attempts by medical personnel.
Acting Prosecutor Shill stated that Pitts and Martin-Richardson had a dating relationship, and the firearm, determined to be stolen, used in the shooting was recovered during the course of the investigation.
