Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Police Chief Dennis McFadden of the Carteret Police Department announced today that a Carteret man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Malik Pandy, 27, of Carteret.
Officials say Mr. Yhakeem Kornegay, 29, of Carteret turned himself in on Sunday, May 22, 2022, and was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault, second-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
Yhakeem Kornegay presently is lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center pending a pre-trial detention hearing in Superior Court.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Yhakeem Kornegay are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty
