Authorities are looking for the driver of a vehicle that struck a child on a street in Newark's West Ward and then drove away from the scene Friday.
Police and EMS were called to the vicinity of 14th Avenue and Ashland to investigate reports of a pedestrian down around 3:47 p.m. (The old St. Rocco’s School).
Upon arrival, police found an 11-year-old girl suffering scrapes and bruises after a car struck her near the intersection.
Witnesses told police that a white GMC SUV crashed into the girl and then left the location without assisting.
The girl's family told RLS Media that she's expected to make a full recovery.
The incident remains under investigation.
