Authorities in Newark are investigating the motive behind a shooting with a man fighting to live at a hospital in the city Sunday morning.
It happened on Mulberry Street near Murray around 4:10 a.m.
Police responded to reports of shots fired and when they arrived, officers found an conscious and unresponsive male suffering a bullet wound in his head.
The unidentified victim was rushed to University Hospital to treat life-threatening injuries.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office was notified of the shooting and no other injuries were reported.
CORRECTION 6:06 a.m. : A prior report misstated the incident happened near Mulberry and Edison. The unconscious victim was located by police in the vicinity of Mulberry and Edison.
