Authorities in Newark are investigating an assault that resulted in a reported abduction on the campus of Rutgers University in Newark Wednesday.
The incident unfolded at approximately 4 p.m. in the area of 110 Warren Street.
According to a statement released by Rutgers Police officials, police received a 911 call reporting that two females exited a Grey Honda Odyssey and engaged in a fierce physical confrontation.
Rutgers Police said following the altercation, one of the involved females was brought back to the van. A third female passenger assisted in forcibly pushing the female into the vehicle's rear compartment during the incident.
The perpetrators then fled the area southbound on Martin Luther King Boulevard.
At approximately 12:22 a.m., police reported that the vehicle was recovered and the alleged victim was contacted and is safe.
Rutgers Police would not confirm if the women were students or Rutgers University employees.
Officials only reminded staff and students to "reasonable" safety precautions in Newark and reported suspicious activities and individuals to the police.
No arrests have been reported.
