Six Injured in Car Crash on Parkway in Holmdel Township

NJ State Police officials are looking into the cause of a crash that injured several individuals on a highway in NJ Monday. 

According to a statement released by State Police officials, troopers responded to reports of a motor vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of the Garen State Parkway at milepost 116.8 in Holmdel Township at approximately 3:15 a.m.  

Officials said a preliminary investigation indicated that an Acura MDX was in a prior motor vehicle crash and became disabled facing southbound in the local lanes.  

According to the investigation, the driver and five passengers of the Acura all exited the vehicle.  

State Police official said during the incident, a GMC Sierra struck the rear of a Hyundai Elantra and then the front of the Hyundai subsequently struck the Acura. The chain reaction collision ultimately impacted all six of the pedestrians.  

As a result of the collision, the driver of the Hyundai sustained severe injuries.  

Officials say four pedestrians sustained severe injuries and two sustained moderate injuries.  

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
