Two Newark Police officers and a civilian suffered non-life-threatening injuries after a pursuit that ended in a crash outside a University in Union Township Wednesday night.
According to a preliminary investigation, the wild pursuit began around 10 p.m. when Newark South Ward Police reportedly came across suspects occupying a Range Rover that was reportedly carjacked in Elizabeth.
After several attempts to pull the car over, police began to follow the vehicle where the driver sped through Newark and then made their way onto the westbound lanes of Route 22.
A Newark Police vehicle was involved in a collision with a civilian vehicle on the North Avenue side of Kean University. The suspects in the carjacked vehicle continued to speed back into Newark.
The injured officer and civilian were transported to University Hospital for treatment and are expected to recover.
The assailants bailed from the car in the area of NJ rail Road Avenue and Emmet Street around 10:25 p.m.
Three juvenile suspects were apprehended after a K-9 unit assisted in the operation.
