Passaic County Women Center (PCWC) is holding its annual awareness walk at the Garret Mountain Reservation on April 30, starting at 10 a.m.
Teams and individuals can go to the registration site to sign up.
This event features a community resource fair, DJ music to move to, refreshments, an event t-shirt and swag bag, a scenic 2.3-mile walk/fun run and, most importantly, information about how to help prevent sexual violence, support and celebrate survivor resilience, and raise support for sexual violence services in Passaic County.
Featured Speakers include Tamu Lane, Steven Dana and Keith Kazmark.
Tamu Lane is an inspiring speaker known for her work in helping individuals identify the core challenges and setbacks in their lives, often involving trauma so that they can overcome them with confidence.
Steven Dana is a security expert that provides education, guidance, and protection to at-risk victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, and sexual assault nationally.
Keith Kazmark is the popular Mayor of Woodland Park that will be welcoming us to his beautiful neck of the woods.
"We receive many calls on our 24-hour hotline from survivors of sexual violence who are seeking services and emotional support, Dawn Brevard-Waters, PCWC Program Administrator, said.
"Whether their victimization occurred recently or years ago, our advocates are trained to work with the survivors and make appropriate referrals for additional services as needed." Dawn adds, "This awareness walk is a way to educate the community on the harmful social norms that contribute to this act of violence, and also to learn how to best support survivors."
