Newark Police requests the public's help with locating Mr. Haywood Covington, 29, of Irvington, who is wanted for questioning in a shooting that injured a victim on March 31.
Police said at approximately 10 a.m., police responded to a call about shots fired in the 100 block of Sunset Avenue.
When they arrived, officers found five shell cases in the middle of the street. After canvassing the area, they located an unoccupied 2020 Ford Fusion with a bullet hole parked on Sunset Avenue.
While on the scene, officers discovered that a female victim had been shot.
During the course of the investigation, Covington was found to be in possession of a 2020 blue Ford Fusion, which contained heroin.
In a warrant issued today, Covington has been charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, and possession of heroin within 1,000 feet of a school.
Covington, known to frequent the area of Sunset and Lindsley avenues, is described as 6'3" and 195 pounds with brown eyes, black hair and a dark complexion.
