Police took several suspects into custody after a police-involved shooting resulted in an officer being injured and a wild pursuit ending in Elizabeth on Tuesday evening.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office would only confirm that they are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Newark.
According to reports, the residents in the area of 10 Hill Street in the city's Downtown dialed 911 after hearing gunfire in the area shortly before 6:15 p.m.
Police located a dark-colored vehicle occupied by several suspects wanted for a shooting.
Reports say the vehicle driver led police in a wild pursuit that ended in a bailout in the vicinity of Van Buren and Neck Lane in Elizabeth.
At least one weapon was found in the vehicle.
Officers arrested three suspects and searched for an additional male involved in the shooting.
The detective suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
