State police are investigating a crash that injured one pedestrian and killed another on Tuesday night.
Troopers responded to a motor vehicle crash yesterday at 8:18 p.m. on Interstate 78 west near milepost 53.2 in Union Township, Union County.
Based on a preliminary investigation, a Toyota Camry was disabled in the left lane of I-78 express west as a result of an earlier motor vehicle crash.
According to the investigation, the occupants exited and were standing alongside the vehicle. A Nissan Altima was traveling in the left lane of I-78 express west behind the parked Toyota.
Police said that a Honda CRV was traveling on I-78 express west behind the Nissan.
According to police officials, the Nissan moved to the right of the disabled Toyota to avoid a collision and was stuck in the rear by the Honda, which then struck the left concrete barrier and the rear of the Toyota and a pedestrian.
As a result of the impact, the Toyota then struck the second pedestrian.
According to police, Balele J. Bamouni, 42, of Bronx, N.Y., suffered moderate injuries, and Amy L. Miller, 31, of Morristown, suffered fatal injuries.
