Local and state fire officials are continuing to look into the cause of a smoke condition that evacuated a dorm at a college in Newark Tuesday night.
Just before 7:30 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to 180 Bleeker Street (Cypress Hall Dorm) to investigate reports of a fire.
Newark firefighters arrived and found the building completely evacuated with heavy smoke coming from the building.
Crews entered and did not locate flames but did find smoke coming from the building's HVAC system.
The unit was disconnected and occupants were allowed back into the dorm immediately after the building became safe.
Officials will determine what caused the system to malfunction.
