A late Saturday night shooting outside of a high school in Newark's West Ward is mong multiple shots fired investigations being conducted by authorities citywide over the weekend.
Beginning on Saturday, March 19, at approximately 6:20 p.m., police responded to reports of shots fired at 230 Irvine Turner Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers found multiple shell casings in a parking lot at that location. No injuries were reported.
During the early morning hours of March 20, a ShotSpotter activated at 56 Cypress Street, prompting a police investigation just before 1:25 a.m. Units arrived and found shell casings, but no victims were located at the scene. Officials at University Hospital announced an emergency room walk-in gunshot victim suffering non-life-threatening injuries. Police have not confirmed if the victim was shot on Cypress.
Much of Sunday remained quiet -from shooting incidents- until residents in the area of 403 South Orange Avenue notified RLS Media that a shooting had occurred in the neighborhood. Police arrived and taped a portion of the area off after finding shell casings just before 9:55 p.m. A ShotSpotter device notified authorities of the shooing. No injuries were immediately reported.
At approximately 10:05 p.m., police responded to reports of a large fight with shots fired in the vicinity of 151 Peshine Avenue around 10 p.m. Newark South Ward officers arrived and dispersed the crowd, then searched the area for shell casings and possible victims. No shooting was confirmed at this location.
Further up the street, near 164 Peshine, a ShotSpotter device activated around 10:37 p.m. Police arrived and found several shell casings but no victims. Newark's Shooting Response Team was notified and responded to the area to assist in the investigation.
Newark Police officials reported no arrests in any of the shootings and the investigations remain active.
