Lawrence Furlow, a former Newark police officer, who was accused of shaking down drug dealers for money, drugs and guns, but charges were dismissed after his two criminal trials ended with hung juries.
Furlow is now suing the city for almost one million dollars in legal fees reimbursement but in a decision released on Friday, Judge Thomas R. Vena rejected the city's bid to dismiss the lawsuit and indicated the matter should proceed to a jury trial.
Newark officials have not commented on the lawsuit.
The total legal fees reimbursement totaled $989,440.
