Elizabeth City officials have confirmed critical injuries for one person pulled from a burning apartment in a section of the town this morning.
According to a prelmainry investigation, at approximately 8:56 a.m., firefighters responded to reports of a fire inside a third-floor apartment at 436 Cherry Street.
Upon arrival, crews were met with heavy smoke and flames.
Elizabeth officials said two victims were rescued from the building, with one of the injured being rushed to St. Barnabus burn center in Livingston.
The other victim is reportedly in stable condition.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
