Newark East Ward Police are searching for two suspects who robbed then pistol-whipped a man on Wednesday morning.
It happened around 4:30 a.m. in the 50's block of Pulaski Street between Warwick and Lang.
Police arrived at the scene and found the victim suffering non-life-threatening injuries.
The victim reported that two unidentified suspects exited a white Dodge Sedan and approached with weapons.
Police say the assailants demanded personal possessions before violently beating the victim with the gun.
During the incident, one of the suspects repeatedly punched and slapped the non-English speaking man.
The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment while a crime scene unit evaluated the evidence in the neighborhood.
The men, only described as heavy-set and thin, fled the scene and remained at large.
Residents in this section of Newark's East have reported an escalation in robberies and violence.
