Police in Glen Ridge took a Newark man into custody after he allegedly attempted to break into a house in the town Friday.
According to Glen Ridge Police officials, at approximately 4:42 PM, Glen Ridge Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Ridgewood Avenue for a burglary in progress.
Police say the 911 caller advised that the suspect was inside the house and provided a detailed description of the assailant.
Upon the arrival of officers, the suspect, Mr. Marvin Mixson, 39, of Newark, was observed walking down the driveway attempting to flee.
Glen Ridge Officers quickly placed Mixon under arrest without incident, officials said.
While officers were speaking with the suspect, they said he admitted to being on PCP and shortly after that became unresponsive.
Officials said Glen Ridge Officers administered first aid followed by two doses of Narcan, which he regained consciousness.
According to police, Mixon was transported to the hospital, in custody, and then assaulted a Glen Ridge Police Officer.
He was charged with Burglary, Aggravated Assault, Robbery and Theft and is pending transport to the Essex County Correctional Facility.
The case remains under investigation currently.
