UPDATE: Police Arrest Man Wanted for Shooting Near Newark High School

Police in Newark are reporting the arrest of Mr. Kevin M. Winston, 35, of Parsippany, in connection with a shooting that occurred on Tuesday, February 22. 

Police said just after 2 p.m., police responded to a call of shots fired at Montgomery Street near Somerset Street. Responding officers were flagged by a male victim who had been robbed and assaulted in Jersey City by suspects after a motor vehicle collision.

According to police, the victim continued to follow the suspects into Newark.
 

The male driver exited the suspect's vehicle in the area of Montgomery Street and Somerset Street and began shooting multiple rounds at the victim’s vehicle.

Police said the victim was not shot.

This incident occurred just outside American History High School, although there was no threat to the school, it was locked down as a safety precaution. 

Newark Police Major Crimes detectives investigating this incident, with the assistance of Jersey City Police, identified Winston as a suspect.
 

He was arrested yesterday in Jersey City without incident.

 

Winston faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy, unlawful weapon possession, criminal mischief and certain persons prohibited from weapon possession.

Additional charges are pending in connection with the robbery and assault that occurred in Jersey City.

These charges are merely accusations.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
