Rutherford Police closed the right lane on Route 3 to investigate a crash that involved a pedestrian Saturday night.
Emergency responders rushed to the highway's westbound lanes to investigate reports of an injured person around 10:30 p.m.
Police and EMS arrived and found a severely injured person lying in the roadway near Park Avenue after a vehicle struck them at that location.
The injured was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment and remain in critical condition.
The official cause of the crash is under investigation.
