Police are investigating after a 39-year-old man “suffered severe head and facial injuries” after a apparent beating earlier this morning, police said.
According to police, officers responded to the rear parking lot of an apartment building on the 1100 block of West St. George Avenue around 1:45 a.m., after someone reported seeing a pool of blood in the lot, Captain James Sarnicki said.
Responding officers followed a blood trail into the apartment building which led to an unlocked apartment. Inside, police found a 39-year-old man who told them he lived there. The man appeared to have been severely beaten. He had visible face, head injuries, a swollen eye, and bruises, Sarnicki said.
The victim told officers that he had been home all night and had no recollection on what had happened to him. He was treated at the scene by the Fire Department Ambulance and paramedics from Medic 10.
The captain said the victim was then taken to University Hospital in Newark due to the severity of his injuries. The Union County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Unit responded to assist in the investigation.
Detectives are investigating this incident.
