A Plainfield man with a suspended license struck a 13-year-old girl with his car but allegedly to avoid a police report he drove her to her home Friday morning.
The girl was crossing on Pemberton Avenue and Plainfield Avenue around 7:30 a.m., when a vehicle struck her.
The driver, later identified as 57-year-old William Howell, stopped to check on the girl then offered to drive her home, allegedly to avoid filing a police report.
Once the girl arrived at home and told parents what transpired, they took the girl to JFK Medical Center in Edison, for treatment, police said.
With the help of a witness, police obtained a description of the driver and vehicle, according to authorities.
Police used the gathered information to trace Howell who admitted being the driver in the accident.
Howell's vehicle, a Toyota Camry,had front end damage and a dent on the hood.
Howell was issued a summons for careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving while his license was suspended.
According to police, Howell said he panicked and did not want to file report because of this suspended license.
