The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is investigating a hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian on a busy road in Newark on Sunday evening.
According to county officials, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Newark Emergency Responders rushed to McCarter Highway near Commerce Street to investigate reports of an injured person.
Upon arrival, police found an unidentified man suffering severe injuries after being struck by a vehicle while operating an electric scooter.
The victim was rendered medical attention and then pronounced dead a short time later, authorities said.
Officials have not announced an arrest in the case at this time.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
