Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli announced the arrests of a father and son from Midland Park after alleged sexual assault investigation of a 14-year-old girl.
On February 24, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Midland Park Police Department arrested James E. Stoldt after learning that he engaged in inappropriate sexual activity with a 14-year old female acquaintance. The victim was 13-years-old when the inappropriate sexual activity occurred but only recently disclosed to a friend what had taken place. That individual contacted a detective from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office who subsequently contacted the victim and made arrangements for her to be interviewed by detectives from the Special Victims Unit and the Midland Park Police Department. The interview took place on February 20, 2015. During that interview, the victim provided specific details regarding what had occurred with Stoldt. The ensuing investigation resulted in the arrest of James Stoldt. At the time of his arrest, a search warrant was executed at the residence which resulted in the seizure of electronic equipment. Further investigation revealed that both James Stoldt and Richard Stoldt were using the Internet to acquire images of child pornography. Computer media used by each were found to contain images depicting the sexual exploitation of children.
Once it was determined that Richard Stoldt was also using the Internet to obtain images of child pornography, he was also arrested. James E. Stoldt was charged with one (1) count each of sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child and possession of images depicting the sexual exploitation of children.
Bail for Stoldt was set by the Honorable Keith A. Bachmann, J.S.C. at $125,000.00 with no ten percent option, no contact with the victim and the surrender of his passport as a condition of bail.
Stoldt was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail. Richard Stoldt was charged with one (1) count of endangering the welfare of a child for being in possession of the aforementioned images. He was issued a summons and released on his own recognizance.
