New Jersey Transit officials have confirmed that The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office is the lead agency investigating a pedestrian struck by a bus that caused fatal injuries to a pedestrian in Lakewood overnight.
Officials have not released many details regarding the active and ongoing incident.
According to preliminary information, at approximately 10:25 p.m., police were called to the Lakewood Bus Terminal to investigate reports of an injured person.
Police and EMS arrived and found a severely injured person struck by an NJ Transit bus in the parking lot at that location. The driver of the bus reportedly left the scene, and the bus was found in a different location.
Medical personnel at the scene transported the victim to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus, where doctors pronounced the unidentified male dead.
Circumstances surrounding the investigation and what occurred at the scene are in the early stages at this time.
There were no other injuries reported.
