Police in Newark are searching for a male and female suspect wanted for a brazen armed carjacking in Newark's South Ward Thursday evening.
Just before 8 p.m., the violent pair approached the driver of a white 2005 Infinity QX56, pointed a gun at their head and demanded the car.
The suspects sped away in the vehicle that had temporary NJ license plate numbers "W842761".
A county/region-wide search for the suspects resulted in officers locating the suspects on the border of Newark and Irvington Township around 9:45 p.m.
The suspect led officers on a high-speed car pursuit that crashed into a civilian vehicle near South Munn and 18th Avenue.
Authorities say the suspects bailed from the car and remain at large. The male wore all black and the female was last observed wearing a light-colored jacket.
Police say the woman occupying the crashed civilian car suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident is under investigation.
